The Native Huia was the most sacred of NZ birds to Maori as regarded as Tapu - Sacred. The white-tipped tail feathers were worn as head adornments to signify chiefs and people of great mana. Huia birds also mated for life, and were most always found in pairs – symbolised by the two intertwining feathers.
These gorgeous Huia Feather necklace and earrings are delicate and beautiful pieces and look great on and make a lovely gift.
Each piece is made with fine brass and coated in sterling silver and then covered with a clear tarnish resistance to protect them from the elements. The Huia earrings are on hypoallergenic surgical steel posts. The Huia necklace is on a chain that measures 46cms.
These lovely pieces are beautifully presented in a little eco friendly glass bottle with cork lid.
Little Taonga means treasure or prized possession in Maori. Each design captures a little something to be treasured - the places, nature and icons that make Aotearoa NZ so special.
It is designed by Kiwi Cezanne Lyons who is influenced by Ngai Tahu, Rangitane and Ngai Kuta heritage. After her beachside home in Kaikōura was rocked by a huge earthquake in 2016, she created her jewellery to 'celebrate the icons, nature, and places that make Aotearoa special'.
