These gorgeous wee crocheted Poppies are hand made by Dunedin artist, Emma J V Hogg.
She makes the Red Poppy Brooches to help commemorate the Anzacs of New Zealand. Each poppy is crocheted from “Poppy Red” Gallipoli wool, of which a portion of the sale of each ball of wool goes to the NZ R.S.A.
The White Poppy Brooches symbolise peace and remembrance. They were first produced in 1933 in the aftermath of the First World War, by members of the Co-operative Women's Guild. Many of these women had lost family and friends in the First World War. They wanted to hold on to the key message of Remembrance Day, 'never again'.
The brooches measure approximately 2.8cm across and have a black safety pin secured at the back with black wool. They look great pinned to a coat, jacket or top.
