The Kōuma Breastplate represents strength, resilience, and the ability to shield oneself from negative energies or harm.
This beautiful jewellery range is designed by Little Taonga with the designs based on artwork by Greg Ashwell, Atawera Art, Kaikōura.
We have two designs in the Kouma breastplate range -
Huia, inspired by the sacred native bird, represents rarity, prestige, and the beauty of connection to Aotearoa’s natural world.
Niho, meaning “tooth,” draws inspiration from traditional forms of courage and endurance, symbolising protection, safeguarding, and deep connection to whakapapa.
We have both earrings and necklaces in both designs. Each piece is made from fine brass dipped in Sterling Silver, covered with a clear tarnish-resistant coating to protect them from the elements.
The Breastplate necklace measures 4cm x 2cm while the earrings are 5cm long and 2cm across at their widest part.
All make a great gift, symbolic and beautiful and the pieces come packaged in a Little Taonga soft velvet pouch.
