Aotearoa New Zealand has a wealth of native plants. These plants have a rich history of traditional use in helping to maintain or support ora (wellbeing). The ŌKU teas range focuses on the remarkable plant Kawakawa and other native plants and then builds contemporary herbs around them giving the teas distinct and original flavours. Kawakawa has known health good effects on the digestive system, is an anti-inflammatory and is a known pain relief.
ŌKU was formed by Helen & Scott (a trained Medical Herbalist and Naturopath with 20 years experience) out of the desire to harness many of these plants into a product range that can help people rediscover and experience the amazing properties held within our ngahere (forests).
They are conscious of Maori Tikanga, ‘doing things the right way’, and this helps guide their decision-making processes. The tea comes in fully recyclable boxes and the tea bags are home compostable. They contribute to land restoration and planting projects of the native flora and fauna and they, themselves, have planted 1000's of native trees.
