These gorgeous little plates are designed by New Zealand artist, Katy Hayward. She is a New Zealand artist and tattoo artist who specialises in detailed pencil drawings on paper and custom fine lined art for the body.
She works from her art studio on the Tutukaka Coast, where she draws inspiration from her surroundings of ocean views, nature and native bird visitors. She and her husband are avid conservationists and are turning their land back to native bush to create a home for native birds and creatures. To Katy, birds represent the beauty of our taonga in Aotearoa and the responsibility we have to look after and nourish what is left.
The three designs are -
Piwakawaka - This drawing was inspired by her aroha/love for going on beautiful bushwalks with her little family, and the joy of being followed by these friendly little birds who dart and chase her daughter around.
Tui - featuring a tūī bird perched on ew Zealand native flora, including- puawananga | clematis, kawakawa, mānuka and kōwhai.
Kiwi - ‘Walking with aroha’, features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful New Zealand nativebush foliage. The kiwi is accompanied by some other NZ native creatures - Hura/giant centipede, pupurangi/kauri snail, kahukura/red admiral butterfly, pepe para riki/common copper butterfly, rauparaha’s copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, janita’s tussock butterfly, mumutawa/ladybird.
These pretty little plates are made of bone china and measure 115mm x 20mm. They can be put in the dishwasher but it is recommended that they be handwashed.
The plates can be used as an ornament or to put trinkets in. They come smartly boxed and make a lovely gift.
