Heather Hunt has illustrated and produced many books about our beloved and endangered Kiwi. This is her latest and it tells the very real story of how Kiwis have to guard their big beautiful eggs against all sorts of predators.
Heather Hunt is closely involved in the very successful Backyard kiwi project in Whangarei heads which has seen the native Kiwi population swell to many hundreds up there.
Kennedy Warne, the author, is also very qualified to write about our native species. he co-founded New Zealand Geographic and reports on the environment on Radio New Zealand.
Together they have created a beautiful book about the Kiwi and how they have to protect their offspring. Helen's illustrations capture the dark, lushness of our native bush and she cleverly portrays the hard working Kiwi dad and his precious family.
It's based on a true story and will appeal to young kids everywhere that are interested in animals. And it's a great early conservation tale.
