This soft toy is unlike many others - it's based on a real creature, the Huhu Grub.
They hatch from eggs deposited under bark or in crevices in rotten wood. For two to three years they live in cavities they have eaten into the wood, then begin a pupal stage that lasts 25 days. After this they emerge from their nest as a fully grown Huhu Beetle and fly away.
Hemi is large (50cms in length) and very soft and cuddly. A great gift for any child interested in insects and unusual animals.
